Storm Drain Repair


What is a storm drain?


Storm drains are designed t prevent flooding on the road, in yards, and around buildings and businesses. They work by diverting rain and ground water into nearby bodies of water. Every time it rains, water runs off of your roof, through your gutters and into the street. It picks up debris and pollutants along the way from your building, yard, and even the street itself. This water flows into storm drains and then through a system of pipes into a nearby stream, pond, reservoir, or other body of water.



How to maintain a storm drain :


Preventative maintenance for storm drains can be accomplished by simply making sure that the areas around your business are cleaned regularly. In addition to clogging storm drains garbage, debris and other pollutants that get carried into the drains eventually end up in fresh water supplies. It is important to remember that the storm water that gets dumped into rivers and lakes is not treated, and that storm water run off is a major cause of pollution and environmental degradation.


Storm drain should be cleaned at least once a year, before the rainy season, for regular maintenance. Storm drain cleaning falls onto the property owner to maintain, however, there are a few things local residents can do to ensure the health of the storm drain as well to help prevent the need for more frequent cleaning :

  • Keep storm drains clear of debris and litter.

  • Don't dump chemicals, motor oil, empty bottles or cans, soapy water, or other liquids or solids down a storm drain.

  • Contact a professional if you notice standing water near a storm drain after rainfall, if you notice a clogged or damaged storm drain, or if you see backed-up drainage in a parking lot.



How to repair a storm drain :


Regular inspections and preventative maintenance can help identify and fix problems before a storm drain completely deteriorates, but if your storm drain completely stops working our experienced staff can inspect the source and determine the best way to go about repairing it.


Much of the same equipment and process used for cleaning your storm drain is used to repair it as well. The process to repair a storm drain is :

  • First - Video pipe inspection is used to determine the root cause of the problem.

  • Second - Hydro excavation is used to spray high-pressurized water to remove blockages and clear the drain lines.

  • Third - Our vacuum trucks are used to remove excess debris and leaves from the storm drain.

  • Finally - Now that the storm drain has been cleared out of all obstructions, we use our special lining method of cured in place pipe lining, or CIPP lining, in order to repair with zero digging required. CIPP lining is done to preserve the current pipes that have been damaged and it increases the lifespan of a storm drain system for up to 100 years.
