What is an Oil Water Separator?

An oil water separator (OWS) separates oils and suspended solids from water so that it can be skimmed away. Oil is lighter than water so it tends to float to the top. Oil water separators are specifically designed to target oil based on the gravity difference between oil and water, allowing for heavier solids (sludge) to settle to the bottom, while oil rises to the top, leaving additional wastewater in the middle layer. The sludge can then be scraped away, the oil can be skimmed off the top, and wastewater can move along for further treatment.

Oil/Water Separator Services

Properly cleaned oil/water separators and grit traps can help prevent downtime, environmental issues, penalties, and fines. That’s why it’s important to have qualified professionals who know how to prevent solids, engine grease, motor oil, and runoff water from overflowing into the local water system.

For disposal of non-hazardous waste material there must also be a manifest, such as the one displayed, completed prior to cleanup and dumping.

That’s where we here at Cloud 9 Services come into play! We will not only provide you with completing the manifest and giving you a copy for your records, but you can count on us to minimize your exposure by providing expert collection and transportation to our partnered facility at Shamrock Environmental Corporation. Where their facilities specialize in solidifying, treating, recovering, recycling, or reusing the non-hazardous waste. Our expert staff combined with our top-of-the-line equipment ensures that your traps – and your business – are kept compliant and clean at all times.
